"We'll get along fine as long as you don't come between me and my coffee." |
I have absolutely no use for people who have lofty career ambitions but don’t care to follow through on the tougher aspects of their dream job. Hey - if you want the big chair, you’ve got to be ready to do the unpleasant stuff. Dig?
This is why I have absolutely no respect for hiring managers who won’t call the final-round candidates to tell them that they lost out. We all know there can be only one, and I have prepared the most gracious concession speech in the world. Just call me and give me closure. I won’t harass you or anything. Cool?
No, I didn’t get the job. Actually, I lost out on a couple lately. Made it well into the process but came in second. Yes, it blows.
It also might be a good thing. I’ve been applying to a lot of jobs hoping to run away FROM something, but I haven’t really considered where I’m running TO. It’s very possible that the appropriate course of action right now is to just stop running and stay in the present.
Why synchronicity? Because I do actually believe in a universe that gives us what we need, when we need it. Things happen for a reason and at the right time. You just have to pay attention to the highway markers.
I can’t remember where I heard or read this analogy, but it’s appropriate.
“Believe you’re allowed to catch the bus. And then run like hell to get it.”
